WM Waste has recently added two new Ford Ranger Wildtrak Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) to our operational fleet, marking another step forward in our commitment to reducing emissions and improving fleet sustainability.
“At WM Waste, we are always looking for ways to make our operations more sustainable, and our commitment to electric and hybrid vehicles has always been a priority for us to innovate within this space,” said Group General Manager Matt Jeffs.
The hybrid utes combine a 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor powered by an 11.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. This allows them to operate in electric-only mode for short trips, up to 45 to 50 kilometres, with zero tailpipe emissions. This makes them ideal for local runs and site visits. When needed, the petrol engine provides additional power for longer trips, towing and heavier duties.
With a braked towing capacity of 3,500 kg and up to 973 kg of payload capacity, the Ford Ranger PHEVs meet the demands of our daily operations while significantly reducing fuel use. The onboard Pro Power system also enables the vehicle to power tools and equipment directly from its battery, providing added flexibility for remote work.
“We invested in our first hybrid electric/diesel truck back in 2008,” Matt said. “We then introduced our first fully electric truck in 2018 and have now expanded this approach to include our fleet of cars and utes.”
This latest investment reflects our broader commitment to building a cleaner, more sustainable future through practical innovation in our operations.
“We are very proud as a company to invest in more environmentally friendly vehicles for the future,” Matt said.
