What To Do With Your New Year’s Waste

Jan 05, 2018

The Festive Season certainly has many perks. Time away from work, time spent with family, and just good jolliness all round. But what happens after our extravagant Christmas and New Year’s celebrations and we’re left with all that rubbish.

What to do about your post-holiday waste

Unfortunately, many people still deal with the remnants of a great holiday for weeks after the Festive Season is over. Cups and glasses, wrapping paper, and a whole range of waste can be waiting to be recycled, or have clogged up your general rubbish bin, putting a lot of stress on local waste removal services.

How should you remove this waste?

You can throw it all away and contribute to the 50 million tonnes of waste in our Australian landfills – or you could be constructive, clever and conscientious about it all. Even if your celebrations have come and gone, you can still keep these tips in mind every year the Festive Season comes around.

Here are five tips to help you get started:

  • Recycling

For all your bottles and other recyclable materials (excluding tinsel), make sure these go into the correct bin. If you’re not sure, consult with your local council or a reputable waste management company in Melbourne.

  • Candles

Your candles should not be thrown away. Keep them either as decorative pieces around your home or keep them in a cupboard somewhere if ever the electricity goes out. They’ll come in handy.

  • Wrapping paper

It makes sense just to crumble it all up and throw it away. But think again. Firstly, there are the bits and pieces that you receive, which can be repurposed for a birthday coming up. Secondly, if you overbought this year, keep it for next year.

  • Liquor bottes

Empty liquor bottles can make for a magical display of art if you are that way inclined. However, a more useful way of repurposing your bottles is to use them as a vase or to go to your recycling plant and have them properly recycled.

  • Waste Removal

This one’s easy. If you have too much waste sitting around than your bins can handle, you should call your local Melbourne waste removal company to supply you with a skip bin of the size you need and have them remove it all for you. They also do it professionally and with the environment in mind.
