1985

First to introduce recycling of scrap metal and whitegoods from hard waste collections in Melbourne in 1985.

1987

First to introduce recycling of green waste from hard waste collections using a wood chipper in 1987.

1988

First to de-gas refrigerators collected from hard waste collections 1988.

2003

First hard waste company to use a wheel loader to pick up Hard & Green waste (Box Hill) in 2003.

2004

First hard waste company to separately collect mattresses for recycling (Casey) in 2004.

2006

First hard waste company to install satellite position systems in all vehicles 2006.

2006

First hard waste company to separate e-waste from kerbside for recycling in 2006 (Frankston).

2007

Set up sorting facility for kerbside hard waste at Knox Transfer Station in 2007 and commenced commingling hard waste to improve collection and recycling efficiency.

2008

First hard waste company to use hybrid (diesel/electric) trucks in 2008.

2009

First hard waste company to use Euro 5 trucks for collection in 2009.

2011

Establishment of regional mattress recycling facility at Knox Transfer Station in 2011 (now processing approximately 140,000 mattresses per year).

2012

First hard waste company to have truck scales fitted to collection trucks in 2012.

2012

Established e-waste drop off facilities at Coldstream and Knox Transfer Stations.

2013

Introduction dedicated hard waste website www.hardrubbishmelbourne.com.au in 2013.

Upgrade of Knox Transfer Station mattress recycling and hard waste processing facility including new shredders, screens and conveyors in 2013.

2014

Introduction of low entry hard waste collection vehicles in 2014.

Introduction of Ipads for booked hard waste collections 2014.

2016

Designed and built combination tray/compactor trucks for hard waste collections 2016.

2017

Establishment of a Processed Engineered Fuel (PEF) production facility at Knox Transfer Station to enable high level of hard waste (70%) and mattress waste diversion (95%) 2017-2018.

2018

Introduction of fully electric hard waste collection vehicles Oct 2018.
